The Monkey and the Wedge: A Fun Panchatantra Story for Kids

The Monkey and the Wedge

Once upon a time, in a green and sunny forest, lived a clever little monkey named Bandhu. Bandhu loved swinging from tree to tree, playing all day, and looking for tasty fruits.

One afternoon, as Bandhu was hopping near an old wooden bridge over a sparkling river, he noticed a small wooden wedge stuck in the planks.

“Hmm… what’s this? It looks interesting!” Bandhu said, tilting his head.

Curious, Bandhu grabbed the wedge and tugged with all his might. He twisted, pulled, and even hopped on one foot trying to loosen it.

“Oof! It won’t come out! This wedge is really stubborn!” Bandhu exclaimed, puffing out his chest.

Just then, the wise old tortoise Mitra crawled slowly toward him.

“Bandhu, what are you doing there?” asked Mitra.

“I found this wedge stuck in the bridge, Mitra. I want to pull it out!” Bandhu replied proudly.

Mitra shook his head gently. “Be careful, Bandhu. Sometimes, trying to remove things without thinking can cause big trouble.”

But Bandhu was too curious to listen. He pulled, twisted, and tugged again… until suddenly, CRACK! A part of the bridge broke, and Bandhu tumbled into the river with a huge splash!

“Oh no! Help! Help!” Bandhu shouted, spluttering and waving his little arms.

Mitra laughed softly and helped him climb out.

“Do you see, Bandhu? The wedge seemed small and unimportant, but trying to remove it without thinking caused a big problem. Always think before acting,” said Mitra kindly.

Bandhu shook his wet fur and grinned sheepishly. “You’re right, Mitra. I wanted to be clever, but I forgot to think. I’ll be more careful next time!”

From that day, Bandhu learned an important lesson: curiosity is good, but thinking first is even better! And the forest echoed with laughter as Bandhu and Mitra continued their adventures safely.
