The Elephant and the Sparrows – A Moral Story for Kids

The Elephant and the Sparrows

In a big forest, a pair of sparrows lived happily in a small nest on a tree. One hot afternoon, a huge elephant came wandering by. Angry with the heat, he shook the tree roughly.

CRACK! The sparrows’ nest fell to the ground, and their tiny eggs broke.

The mother sparrow cried, “Oh no! Our babies are gone!”
The father sparrow said, “That cruel elephant must be punished. But how can we, so small, fight him?”

Just then, a woodpecker friend flew down. “Don’t worry,” he said. “Together, we can defeat him.”

The sparrows agreed, and they also called a wise frog for help.

The woodpecker said, “I will peck at the elephant’s eyes and make him blind.”
“I will call my crow friend,” said the father sparrow. “He will attack the elephant’s ears.”
“And I,” croaked the frog, “will trick him to his end.”

The next day, when the elephant came again, the woodpecker swooped down and pecked at his eyes. “Aaah!” the elephant cried, “I cannot see!”

Then the crow attacked his ears, and the elephant staggered in pain.

Finally, the frog sat near a deep pit and began croaking loudly, “Come here, come here!”

The blind elephant followed the sound. Thinking he was walking toward a pond, he stepped forward and—thud!—fell straight into the pit.

The sparrows cheered. “We did it! Even the strongest can fall when the weak unite.”

From then on, the forest animals learned that teamwork could defeat even the mightiest enemy.

Moral: Unity and teamwork make even the weak strong.
