Cat and the Partridge – Panchatantra Story for kids

The Cat and the Partridge

Once upon a time, in a dense forest, there lived a partridge who made her home in a cozy burrow beneath a tree. One day, feeling hungry, she decided to venture into the fields nearby to find some food. However, she didn’t return for several days, as the fields were abundant with delicious grains.

Meanwhile, a hare discovered the empty burrow and decided to make it his new home. He settled in comfortably, enjoying the shelter it provided.

When the partridge finally returned, she was surprised to find someone else occupying her home.

Partridge: “Excuse me, but this is my home. I have lived here for a long time.”

Hare: “But I found this burrow empty and have made it my home. I have every right to stay here.”

The two animals argued back and forth, unable to reach an agreement. Realizing they needed help, they decided to seek the wisdom of a renowned cat known for his fairness and knowledge.

They approached the cat, who was sitting by the Ganges River, appearing serene and wise.

Partridge: “Great sage, we seek your judgment. This hare has taken over my home, and we cannot resolve our dispute. Please tell us who is right.”

Hare: “Yes, wise one, please help us settle this matter.”

The cat listened carefully to both sides and then spoke.

Cat: “I understand your predicament. However, I am old and cannot hear well. Come closer, and I shall listen to your words.”

The partridge and the hare, trusting the cat’s wisdom, approached him. As they drew near, the cat swiftly pounced on them, capturing both in his claws.

Moral: Beware of those who pretend to be wise; they may have ulterior motives.
